Travel Nursing During the COVID-19 Pandemic

2020 has been a year full of challenges. COVID-19 has impacted the social, family and work life of many people, and left us grappling with the uncertainty of our ‘new normal.’ And of course, our healthcare system is facing a high demand for qualified nurses to get our communities through the pandemic while still meeting the existing need for patient care.

While many of the feelings we’re all dealing with these days are quite heavy, the option of travel nursing can be quite freeing in the sense that it provides nurses with options in a time where we seem to have few. If you’re searching for something to look forward to and reignite the spark in your life, it may be the perfect time to explore the exciting career path of travel nursing.

There are a variety of ‘types’ of travel nursing contracts. Of course, we offer positions across a wide range of specialties, but the length of contracts can vary too. Some prefer to hit the road for just a few weeks at a time so they can visit more destinations while others want the stability of spending a longer time in one place – and both options are available to you when you work with Select Medical Connections.

During your placements, you’ll have a unique opportunity to advance in your profession as a nurse by gaining new skills and adapting to a new facility while also providing you with a chance to transform your lifestyle. You can experience different accommodations, discover new places in Canada, and meet like-minded professionals, which offers a very enriching experience from start to finish. Simply put, travel nursing is the perfect way to add some excitement back into your life and to reinvent yourself as both a nurse and a person.

Of course, aside from what you’ll gain from your experience travel nursing, you’ll be giving a lot too. One of the most common reasons our nurses have chosen this career path is to help communities in dire need of additional healthcare support. Whether you’re placed at an understaffed facility or in a remote community with its own unique challenges, you’ll be helping patients who may not have received such a high level of care if you weren’t there to fill the role. That alone has been one of the most highly rewarding aspects of travel nursing reported to us by the 2,000+ nurses we’ve worked with since 1999.

For many of us, COVID-19 has put a lot of things into perspective… and may have also taken away the element ‘looking forward to the future’ from life. Travel nursing is a great way to get that forward-looking ambition back! Being able to work, travel, save up and gain professional experience during this time is truly a blessing. If you are craving a change of scenery, time spent in nature, travel, human connection and adventure, pack your bags and give travel nursing a try.
